iPad 2

Oh look, what's this? The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the iPad 2 has entered production -- which exactly lines up previously rumored manufacturing schedules. According to the WSJ, the new edition of Apple's tablet will have a faster processor with a better GPU and more memory in a thinner, lighter package. There's also said to be a front-facing camera for video conferencing, but the much-discussed display resolution will remain "similar" to the current iPad -- which actually goes along with the most recent information we've gotten from our sources, who say that the next iPad will indeed stay at the current resolution, and that the higher-res display we'd heard about earlier may have actually been for a future model. As for availability, the WSJ says the new iPad will be on Verizon and AT&T, which certainly makes sense -- although it'll be interesting to see how Verizon handles positioning it against the upcoming Xoom, which Motorola is marketing in an aggressively anti-iPad manner. In any event, between the iPad 2, the Xoom, and whatever Palm has to offer tomorrow, this spring is about to get very, very interesting.

Money Can Buy Happiness! You Just Need to Know How to Spend It

Once basic needs are met, including the ability to pay bills and provide sufficient shelter and food, making more money will not necessarily make you happier. Happiness tapers or levels off after $75,000 because most of us don't know how to buy happiness.

So how does the mind experience happiness? Studies show that people adapt more slowly to experiences than to material purchases. As opposed to material possessions, experiences exist only as mental representations. Unless you bought a rug during the life-changing trip to India, the experience exists only in your mind now. Experiences like going on a holiday, taking a day trip, going to the cinema, theater or museum require changes to a daily routine. The more changes that are made, the longer it will take to adapt to these changes. During this process, the mind forms memories. Overtime, these memories grow and can be revisited. Experiences are always open to positive reinterpretation and slowly have a tendency to become central to identity. A person's life is quite literally the sum of his or her experiences. Simply, the more happy memories you have, the happier you are.

Now apply what you’ve learned with these five Freud-approved tips to buying happiness.

1. Buy experiences and not things.
Before purchasing an expensive apartment, car, or pair of shoes, try coming to a deeper understanding about what you are actually buying. On the emotional level, purchasing material goods often has a negative impact on happiness. Apartments, cars or shoes do result in comfort but not long-term pleasure. Purchasing comfort is a great way to eliminate the pains of life, but comfort is something we get used and it must be purchased over and over to replicate the feeling. However, buying experiences like visiting a new country or city will allow you to form new memories. Planning your experience carefully to maximize the number of new and exciting things that you see or experience will help you form more memories. Overtime, your mind will reinterpret, revisit, and embellish these memories, setting a foundation for long lasting satisfaction.

2. Spend money on friends and with friends.
Research suggests that socializing with friends and family can be the happiest times of your life. Spending money on activities with friends, families, and acquaintances represents a more effective route to happiness than spending money on personal things alone. For example, a study that looked at the happiness of people employed on Wall Street roughly six to eight weeks after they received a yearly bonus found that the manner in which they spent that bonus was a greater predictor of happiness than the size of the bonus itself. Those people who spent more of their bonus on experiences and social activities felt greater happiness than did those who bought something for themselves.Take your friends out to dinner, a concert, or take a trip together and make more happy memories.

3. Focus on the process.
For lasting happiness, it is important that you enjoy the process of spending and get satisfaction from your purchase. Again, purchasing experiences is a great way to focus on process, but smaller purchases that involve a process to enjoy them, such as fine coffee, chocolate and perfumes, are also known to be a source of pleasure and joy.

4. Think logically and emotionally before making a purchase.
Thinking logically and balancing your budget is very important, but it also pays to think emotionally about what you are getting with each buy. A relatively easy way to do this is to separate the necessary from the desired and ask yourself what need each purchase is satisfying. For instance, a Rolex and a Casio both tell the same time. While this can be hard advice to follow, try staying away from luxury for luxury's sake. If luxury is a must, combine it with an experience. Share the momentous occasion of an extravagant purchase with someone and include them as much as possible.

5. Buy lots of small pleasures rather than one large buy.
With happiness as the ultimate goal, it is better and more efficient to buy a variety of smaller pleasures rather than spend large sums in one go. In this case, quantity and quality go hand in hand.

Hermes Govantes Smells!

Photography by HGN Studio
My Signature Fragrance: Dolce & Gabbana  (classic)
There is no question that Dolce and Gabbana is by far my favorite and has been that I've carried for over 6 years now. I consider it my signature fragrance because it is the one that I make to replenish when i see the ordinarily shaped bottle get passed the invisible half way marker. It's the one that has a smaller brother always ready to go in my travel bag for any situation that comes along. The bottle has no bright colors, no interesting look or signature details- the fragrance in this case speaks for itself and so do the ladies if they find the courage to speak their sense.
I do like to switch it up and have another group I play with for different occasions. Here are a few that are some that rank high in my nose and have gotten a good response when worn. You can pick up most of these at Sephora.com or at a local Sephora.
The essential fragrance in my collection. This one is one I pickup everytime I go to Spain since Boise lacks variety in almost everything and I'm unable to get it locally.
A fragrance of unadorned elegance, vibrant notes of citrus bergamot with warmer tones of wood. At once classic, modern, and sensual, this everyday fragrance embodies masculine charisma.
Notes:
Bergamot, White Pear, Cashmere Wood, Vetiver, Tonka Bean, Musk
Style:
Elegant. Sophisticated. Contemporary.
Declaration Essence is a tribute to men in love. The Essence explores new facets of the original perfume by underlining the strength of its sensuality and natural refreshing woody harmony. A pure and elegant bottle is made of a heart shaped glass with shades from deepest blue to near transparent. The refreshing top notes of bergamot reveal a unique signature built around intense woody middle notes and a profoundly sensual base.
Notes:
Bergamot, Bitter Orange, Cistus, Pepper, Cardamom, Cedar Wood, Vetiver, Oak Moss, Immortelle.
Style:
Sensual. Elegant. Refined.
Distinct, innovative, elegant, and subtle, this warm fragrance offers a long-lasting sensuality. Inspired by the energy and international allure of New York, 212 Men fragrance is impeccably attired in a bottle inspired by the world's most refined objects. It is packaged in a carton of colors evoking those same key notes of energy, style, and panache.
Notes:
Grapefruit, Ginger, Mandarin, Aquatic Molecules, Sandalwood, Guaiac Wood, Musk.
Style:
For a sexy, sophisticated, subtle, and spontaneous man.
This sensual, masculine fragrance is aromatic, with an assertive, spicy core and a warm, leathery-like background that makes it unique and inherently noble and gentlemanlike. Brisk Moroccan coastal plants spiked with piquant fruits, cinnamon tree leaves, pepper, lush florals, smooth woods, and Turkish tobacco make this scent truly unforgettable.
Notes:
Rhubarb, Santolina, Quince Paste, Silver Absinthe, Marine Fennel, Cubeb Peppers, Juniper Berries, White Lavender, Cinnamon Tree Leaves, Jasmine, Orris Root, Patchouli, Oak Moss, Fir Balsam, Ashwood, Tonka Beans, Tobacco Leaf, Madras Wood, Suede Accents.
Style:
Classic. Distinctive. Smooth.
Do you have what it takes? It's a question of conviction, a matter of self-confidence. Experience Only The Brave from Diesel—a magnetic duality connecting the warmth and masculinity of lemon and leather with the energy of amber and cedar wood.
Notes:
Lemon, Leather, Amber, Cedarwood.
Style:
Bold. Compelling. Dynamic.
How to Buy (and Apply) Fragrance
Think small.
The life span of a bottle of cologne is one year. Even if you haven't gone through the whole thing, after twelve months buy a fresh one; you don't want to wear a stale fragrance. I typically get two a year and have a collection of 15 but I try to use the oldest ones on spraying my garments and closets.
Test in increments.
When shopping for a fragrance, try two at a time at the most, one on each arm. Sniff your shirtsleeve between tests to clear your palate. Choose one after you like the way it smells on your skin as they can smell different on others....
Keep it simple.
Leave spraying wrists and other pulse points to the ladies. One hit on each side of your neck will do. Maybe one on the stomach if your single and are out for the evening.
Rotate scents.
Like your wardrobe, your scent should change with the seasons. In the warmer months, wear a small amount of a lighter, fresher scent; in winter, heavier scents like musks in slightly larger doses are appropriate. This is pretty easy to figure out...

Steve Jobs Gets Kicked in Face!

In the FACE! Nevermind the man is recovering from cancer, LG just kicked Steve Jobs’ in the face. Really. Well, virtually at least. But it still counts!
At the 1:00 mark in the official Optimus Pad promo video, there’s a not-so-quick segment that shows Spec Fighter, a take on Street Fighter, where the Optimus Pad fights the “A pad” whose virtual fighter’s likeness is quite similar to Steve’s. You know, the greying beard, balding head, and wire-frame glasses hiding his kind eyes. At least the video wasn’t a Mortal Kombat clone complete with the Finish Him! moves. No, ol’ Jobs just gets a foot to the face Anderson Silva-style. The video is harmless, but will no doubt cause the Apple loyalists to rise up in the name of their leader. Click through for the action.

Serene Branson Internet "Star"

Wow, this is going to be one of the most memorable internet videos of all time. This occurred less then 24 hrs ago and there is already multiple spoofs and remixes of the clip. People are capitalizing on this all over the web while this reporter drowns in her humiliation.

Mike Nelson,a CBS spokesman, gave the following statement: "Serene Branson was examined by paramedics on scene immediately after her broadcast. Her vital signs were normal. She was not hospitalized. As a precautionary measure, a colleague gave her a ride home and she says that she is feeling fine this morning."

Facebook: HG Nightology from "User Profile" to "Fan Page"

As HG Nightology grows things must change. The HGnightology facebook account was opened over a year as a "User Profile" which is suppose to be made for users to open for personal networking. HG nightology will now be a "Facebook Page" and we will discontinue the use of the user profile.

Pages are for businesses to broadcast great information in an official, public manner to people who choose to connect with them. Similar to profiles, Pages can be enhanced with applications that help the entity communicate and engage with their audiences, and capture new audiences virally through friend recommendations, News Feed stories, Facebook events, and beyond. We are integrating our website and application to the "HGnightology Page".

We chose to make the transition this year so that we can accurately see analytics and prevent from unintentional spamming . I encourage you to like the HGnightology Page so that you can continue to get updates and invites to what happening in your city.

A Nice Weekend...

Hermes Govantes & Danish Ishaq

This last weekend was quite eventful and productive. Saturday was spent detoxing at the spa, followed by All Night premiere (quite interesting) and then at the Knitting Factory for Marcus Eaton's CD release concert.  ME's concert was so alive as he rocked the new tunes from the his newly released album, As If I Had Wings.

This below should let you play some tracks from the new album.

Its unfortunate that I already know the deodorant smells like shit.  Otherwise this commercial would have done its job. I wouldn't recommend this stuff unless you want to smell like a 14 year old boy.

Online Retail Spending Reaches A Record $43.4B In Q4 2010; Up 11 Percent

Online spending in the fourth quarter of 2010 reached record levels, according to comScore’slatest data on retail e-commerce. After a stronger than expected holiday shopping season, online retail spending in Q4 reached a record $43.4 billion, which is up 11 percent from the same quarter in 2009. Additionally, 84 percent of U.S. Internet users conducted an online transaction in Q4 2010, which is up from 78 percent last year.

comScore reports that the growth rate for the quarter represented the fifth consecutive quarter of positive year-over-year growth and second quarter of double-digit growth rates in the past year, thanks to an improved economy.
Of course, Q4 spending was largely buoyed by holiday shopping and this year there were a number of factors besides an uptick in the economy that helped push spending to record levels. Free shipping offers, and the Northeast Blizzard following the Christmas holiday also propelled shoppers to look online for deals in the quarter.
For the quarter, the highest grossing prodict categories were Computer Software, Consumer Electronics, Books & Magazines (which exclude digital downloads), Computers/Peripherals/PDAs, and Toys and Hobbies. Each of the categories grew at least 15 percent in Q4 2010 vs. a year ago.
And comScore says that the top 25 online retailers, including retail giants Amazon and Walmart accounted for 68.4 percent of dollars spent online, which is up 5.6 percentage points from a year ago. Interestingly, in Q3 2010, the top 25 retailers accounted for slightly more, with a share of 69.9 percent of dollars. This could show that shoppers also bought items from smaller retailers online this holiday season.
It’s hard to imagine that 2011 could break 2010′s records in terms of e-commerce sales, but it should be interesting come holiday shopping season to see if U.S. consumers continue to spend freely.
